TRAILBREAKER, A 'LA DREAMWAVE
Heheheheheheheh. I admittedly didn't take as much time (or precision) on this piece as I'd like to have, but I think my intentions come across well enough anyway.
Here's hoping Lee can take a joke.
MANTERROR
Oooooooh, this is an old one. And somewhat embarrassing. Just trying to figure out how Manty could HOLD anything. I liked how it turned out, so I colored it. (I'm considerably less fond of it now.)
CYCLONUS
Yet another Con-Quest re-quest from Raksha. I rather liked drawing this. I usually draw TFs more like their toys, but at Raksha's request I went with the show model all the way... okay, maybe some more stylized wings. But still.
MINERVA
Another older piece here that I look back on and go "Christ on a Segway, I can do SO much better now." So, anyway, first female-character TF toy ever. And I found one at the flea market in mint condition for five bucks. No lie.
MAXIMAL GRIMLOCK
Heh. I did this a while back, when this recolor of the Beast Wars Dinobot came out and the tech-spec quite specifically said he was the original character from the old show. Thankfully, a pair of original Optimus Prime fists fit in the "hand holes" real well (with a little tape to make the pegs thicker, mind), and the sword and tail weapon fit in the holes in the fists...
DEATHSAURUS
That's what I'm calling him, eat me. I don't remember why I did this or really when (best guess is mid-1996), but I thought I'd toss it up here. This is also from back before I pencilled pretty much anything I did. I learned to draw all bass-ackwards.
SHOCKWAVE & FISTFIGHT
I'm pretty sure this was the first picture I did for the cover of Con-Quest. Shockwave, the big purple cyclops who ran Cybertron while Meggy napped. Since Raksha and I both like Action Masters, I put Shock's AM parter Fistfight into the picture. The original cover version was a B&W line drawing. This colored version I did for my own amusement then entered in the BotCon '96 art contest. Didn't win. I can cope. It was the least of that convention's disappointments.
SPIDERS! THEY AREN'T OUR HEROES!
Cover of Con-Quest again. I've liked Tarantulas since the every first episode of Beast Wars, since he's always been portrayed as a sick, twisted, sadistic, giggling psychotic. Those kinds of characters are always entertaining. Blackie's a bit of a cliche, but just as entertaining in her own right.
TREADSHOT & CATGUT
I always wanted transforming versions of the new Action Master characters. I like 'em. I drew this pic of Treadshot to figure out his transformation, and how Catgut fit into it. This was before I realized that he was actually modeled after an already existing transforming robot toy from "GunRobo", the same Takara line that the original Megatron toy came from. My version's better, and I say that only because the real deal is horrible.
DECEPTICON CASSETTES
Okay, the cassettes and one Action Master partner, so sue me. I did this piece by request for Secrets of the Universe, a Soundwave fanzine put together by Raksha. I'd done other pics for her "regular" fanzine Con-Quest, but this was the first one I'd done in color. When the book printed the black came out a wee bit dark, but hey.
